Umm Kamel was a formidable matriarch in southern Lebanon, embodying defiance and endurance against oppression. After her death, young villagers faced with a militarized sky and fading ancestral knowledge reimagined her presence through the IAI Searcher MK drone. In this spectral fusion, she emerged as a mechanized harpy, a haunting echo of matriarchal strength tangled with military machinery. Dedicating this station along the herding path to Umm Kamel was an attempt not to amplify her relentless buzzing but to quiet it. By repurposing military-grade technology to demilitarize her hum, the station features a concrete parabolic structure, ironically recalling World War I acoustic devices. Yet rather than detecting threats from above, it captures and amplifies the river’s sounds for herders along the path, turning a deliberate deaf ear to the sky.
